GENERAL / HOW IT WORKS
You can choose to pack items into "SpaceBoxes" – durable plastic boxes we provide at no extra charge – or use your own boxes or suitcases. You can also store individual items, including bulky items. We'll fetch your items, store them securely and return them to you when you need them back.
Using our website, you can schedule a pick-up date and time, and, if you choose, order as many SpaceBoxes as you need. The website will also take you through the payment process.
If you order SpaceBoxes, these will be delivered on the pick-up date you've scheduled. You can then choose to take up to 20 minutes to pack the boxes while our pick-up team waits, or schedule the collection of the packed boxes for a different day.
When you want something back, sign into your account and select which boxes or items you need returned. We'll bring your things back on the date and time of your choosing. A fixed fee of R200 is charged for a return delivery.
You can choose to store any items that aren't illegal (like illicit substances), hazardous (like explosives or flammables) or perishable.
We ask that you use common sense when packing glass or other delicate items. Pack these at your own risk.
We offer the following categories of storage:
- items packed into one or more of our SpaceBoxes or into your own boxes, suitcases or bags, up to a weight limit of 25 kg per box/ container
- any medium bulky item weighing 25 kg or less and with dimensions up to 1 x 1 metres
- any large bulky item weighing over 25 kg and/or with dimensions over 1 x 1 metres.
Our client administration operates from 8 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday, and our delivery times are as follows:
- Monday to Friday: 9 am to 5 pm
- Saturday: 9 am to 12 pm

Yes. Your boxes and items will be stored at one of our warehouses, all of which feature 24-hour CCTV surveillance, alarms linked to armed response and perimeter walls with electric fencing. All our warehouses are fire safety compliant and we adhere to SANS building regulations.
No. To protect the security of our customers' belongings, only authorised SpaceBox personnel are allowed access to our warehouses.
No. The responsibility to insure your belongings lies with you. Please make the necessary arrangements with your insurance company. However, we do provide Goods In Transit Insurance.
Our storage facility is protected with an alarm system, patrolling guards, 24-hour camera surveillance and fire extinguisher systems. Access is strictly controlled.
Members of our moving team are sourced through ACT Logistics and are given a thorough background check. Each member of the team undergoes a rigorous training programme so that you are offered the very best in customer service. Unless we are bound by legal requirements to do so, we will never open your boxes without your consent. We will not touch, tamper with or remove any items belonging to you.
Yes. We value sustainability and aim to leave the smallest carbon footprint possible. Our boxes are made from business-grade polypropylene plastic and are strong enough to be used over and over again. They are 100% recyclable. We guarantee that every box is cleaned rigorously and sterilised before being sent to you.
At present we offer Spaceboxes in one size only. They are 60cm long, 40cm wide and 40cm high. However, you can also use your own boxes, or even suitcases. Out of courtesy to our moving team, we ask that you limit the weight of each box or bag to 25kg.
Firstly, close the box. Secondly, seal the box with a tamper-proof seal that we provide at no extra cost. Write down the number of the seal, matching it to the barcode of that box. Using your own box? No problem, we use tamper proof stickers which seal the box, and also have their own unique code. This seal will let you know if your box has been tampered with.
Our moving team is very busy, so as a courtesy to them, we request that you confine each box to a maximum of 25kg.
Absolutely, or even suitcases. However, if you’re using your own boxes, be sure to take extra care that they're packed well and sealed securely. We will also add our tamper proof seal with its own unique code, at no additional charge.
Unfortunately, we cannot pack boxes on your behalf or disassemble any items belonging to you.
Our moving team can wait for up to 20 minutes for you to pack your boxes. We also recommend that you have your storage items prepared for packing so that you can load them quickly into the boxes. If you like you can keep the SpaceBoxes and arrange an alternative day for collection. Just remember that the monthly rental charge will still be applicable. As you pack, you can label the boxes and take a photo of their contents so you’ll know what you’ve stored in each one. Likewise with your other items.
Yes. Our moving team will sit tight for up to 20 minutes while you pack or unpack your boxes. Unfortunately, our pick-up and delivery schedule does not allow us to wait more than the designated 20 minutes, which is why we ask that you have your items for storage organised beforehand so that you can pack them quickly.
PICKUP & DELIVERY
Your delivery and/or pick up can be scheduled on the Spacebox website by logging into your profile and selecting the boxes or items you require for return or pickup. If your order includes SpaceBoxes, we’ll bring you your empty boxes at a time and place of your choice. You can then either pack immediately (our driver will wait up to 20 minutes) or we’ll leave them with you to pack.
Click “Get Started” (or “Add items” if you’re logged into your account) and add as many items as you want. If you like, you can add a description. Enter your details and when you’d like us to fetch your items, and then fill in your payment details. It’s as simple as that!
In the event that you have to cancel or reschedule your order, you may do so as late as 5pm on the day prior to delivery. Changes made after 5pm on the day before your scheduled delivery or pick up are liable to a R100 late cancellation fee.
That is absolutely fine. Simply tell us and we’ll send our moving team to collect the boxes from your home. Please note that there is an ‘empty box pick up’ fee of R100.
We don’t see why not, although you will be liable for the usual fee of R80 per box per month. We’ll automatically start your billing cycle on delivery, whether you schedule a pick up or not.
In order for you to keep track of what is stored, we recommend that you take a photograph of the contents of each box, or of each single item, and add a description. You can log in to your account to add or access these whenever you want.
We're sorry about that. While our moving team tries their best to ensure that they are on schedule, they may be delayed due to unforeseen circumstances. Please contact our customer support team on 0861 77 22 32 or e-mail info@SpaceBox.co.za. We'll locate the driver and update you on their expected arrival time.
We require at least 24 hours’ notice for all pick ups. Your pick up will take place the next business day, provided your preferred time slot is vacant and you make your booking before 4 pm.

It’s simple. Sign into your account, click on ’Return my items’ under your username and choose the items or boxes you need transported back to you, and select a date and time that works for you. We ask that you give us no less than 24 hours’ notice for returns.
We can ship your boxes and items globally. However, if you're using our SpaceBoxes, you'll need to purchase them (because we can't collect the boxes from international locations).
We can deliver your items to you. There’s no extra charge if your new address is inside our service area. If you move to an area where SpaceBox is not operational, we charge an additional R1000. Not at all. Pickups are free.
Our moving team will wait for up to 20 minutes and attempt to contact you. If you still don’t turn up in that time, we’ll need to charge you R100.
Yes we can certainly help. When you sign up, please fill in your actual place of residence as your delivery or pick up location. However, please let us know the specific location of the storage facility in the ‘Special instructions’ box before you confirm the order. On the day of delivery, we ask that you meet us outside the storage facility first. Our delivery crew can wait for up to 20 minutes while you pack your SpaceBoxes.
Certainly. There’s no extra charge if the new address is inside our service area. However, we charge an additional R1000 for delivery to an address outside the areas we service in which you currently reside. As long as your apartment or house has elevator access, we will gladly carry your items and boxes. We climb stairs for a maximum of three levels. However, should you have larger items we suggest getting assistance for the driver which is a selectable option on the website at an extra fee of R200.00. This assistance is also suggested should we need to carry the boxes or items over more than three levels.
PRICING & BILLING
Full refunds are given for the boxes or items you have not sent into storage.
A rate of R80.00 incl. per item or box (smaller than 1m x 1m, weighing less than 25kg) per month. R120 incl. per items (medium items at 1m x 1m, weighing 25kg) per month. R180.00 incl. per item (items larger than 1m x 1m, weighing more than 25kg) per month. We will collect and store just about anything. Best of all, you can use our secure, durable SpaceBoxes to store your belongings free of charge.
For returns a R200 fee per delivery in the same area applies, however, should your items not fit on our regular vehicle there will be an additional R650 for pickup and again for delivery. Should you require additional assistance there will be an extra fee of R200.00 which is selectable on the website. We do offer promotional coupons from time to time, so look out for discounts in your mailbox and on Facebook and Twitter and Instagram.
As long as you give us 24 hours’ notice when you need boxes or items returned to you, you can move them in and out of storage as often as you like. For retrieval trips, R200 per delivery in the same area applies. If you wish to repack your boxes and have them brought back to storage, we will happily do that at no extra cost to you.
In case you’re not sure how many boxes to request, we suggest that you order extra ones. When our moving team comes to pick up your filled boxes for storage, simply give back any empty boxes you don’t use. We only charge for the boxes you store and we will refund your initial payment immediately.
You will be billed monthly via your credit or debit card. When you place an order, your card will be charged immediately and then again once a month. We also accept EFT payments or debit orders by arrangement.
We do not store any of your financial information - when you submit your payment details they are encrypted and processed directly by the payment gateway.
